Briana Hussey, Esq.
Family Law Associate
Briana Hussey is an Associate Attorney at Skarin Law Group, where she represents clients in a wide range of family law matters. An experienced litigator with a diverse legal background, Briana brings extensive courtroom experience, a strategic approach to advocacy, and a deep commitment to helping individuals and families navigate some of life’s most challenging transitions. Her background in dependency and criminal law has given her particular insight into complex child custody disputes and domestic violence matters.
Briana earned her J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University in New York City. During law school, she developed a strong foundation in client advocacy through several clinical and public service opportunities. As a student attorney with the Innocence Project, she represented six individuals who had been wrongfully convicted of serious crimes, investigating claims of actual innocence and pursuing DNA testing and access to investigative records. Her work with the organization helped shape her commitment to meaningful advocacy and ensuring that every individual has a voice within the legal system. She also participated in Cardozo Advocates for Battered Women and the school’s Criminal Defense Clinic, gaining valuable experience in client representation, criminal procedure, and courtroom practice. In recognition of her dedication to public service, Briana was named a David Berg Foundation Fellow.
Her connection to family law began during a summer clerkship with the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, where she worked in the Domestic Violence Clinic at the Long Beach courthouse. There, she assisted individuals seeking domestic violence restraining orders and helped survivors of domestic violence navigate the U-Visa application process. This experience, along with her subsequent work representing parents in dependency proceedings, established a foundation for her understanding of the complex personal and legal issues that often arise in family law cases.
Following law school, Briana served as a post-bar law clerk with the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office before beginning her legal career as court-appointed counsel with Los Angeles Dependency Lawyers. She represented parents in juvenile dependency proceedings, advocating for individuals facing issues involving domestic violence, substance abuse, mental health challenges, and various forms of trauma. She later served as a Deputy Public Defender and Deputy Alternate Public Defender in Fresno, Orange, and Los Angeles Counties. During her time in criminal defense, she completed 10 jury trials, conducted numerous evidentiary hearings, and successfully challenged unlawful searches and seizures on behalf of her clients.
Briana subsequently expanded her litigation experience into civil practice, handling insurance defense matters involving personal injury, employment, wrongful death, public entity defense, and professional liability. She later returned to family law, serving as an Associate Attorney with two family law firms before joining Skarin Law Group in 2026.
At Skarin Law Group, Briana handles a variety of family law matters, including divorce, child custody, and domestic violence proceedings. Her responsibilities include drafting substantive motions and requests for orders, conducting legal research, preparing for and handling hearings and trials, taking depositions, and working directly with clients, opposing counsel, and outside experts. She also brings a particular interest in expanding her experience with complex financial matters and business-related issues in family law.
Briana believes that effective representation begins with understanding each client’s individual circumstances, concerns, and goals. She approaches every matter with diligence, thoughtful preparation, and a commitment to keeping clients informed so they can make confident, well-informed decisions. Above all, she is passionate about helping people and providing the advocacy and support they need during difficult periods of their lives.
Briana is admitted to the State Bar of California and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. Outside of her practice, Briana enjoys spending quality time with friends and family, practicing yoga, running, surfing, and hiking. She also enjoys taking advantage of all that Los Angeles has to offer, particularly its music and comedy scenes.
