Matthew Skarin is a Certified Family Law Specialist, a CPA, and holds a California Real Estate Broker License, making him the only attorney in California with this unique combination of credentials. He has also been admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States of America. Prior to law school, Mr. Skarin worked for the accounting firms of Deloitte & Touche and Miller and Co., performing both tax and compliance work.

A descendant of L. Frank Baum, the author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Matthew is occasionally and lightheartedly referred to as “The Wizard of Law™” by colleagues and clients alike—a nod not only to his family history, but also to his ability to navigate complex legal and financial issues with strategic insight and clarity.

Matthew uses his wide variety of legal and financial skills to effectively and artfully guide high net worth individuals, business owners, and investors through the process of dissolution. Through Matthew’s extensive experience, he is able to discern potential pitfalls early in a case, allowing him the opportunity to communicate these issues to clients and take steps to minimize exposure.

Matthew approaches each client’s case from a fresh perspective, developing a strategy early in the representation. He works closely with clients to ensure that every decision aligns with their goals. He believes the best outcomes are achieved through strategic planning, anticipating opposing arguments, and maintaining open communication throughout the process.

Prior to founding Skarin Law Group, APC in 2019, Matthew was a partner at one of the largest family law firms in Los Angeles, where he practiced family law for more than a decade. Through Skarin Law Group, APC, he has created a firm designed to provide the sophistication and experience clients expect from a large law firm while maintaining a more personalized and efficient approach.
